Apart or A Part?

Apart or A Part?

We sometimes say “I’m really happy at the moment, apart from X, Y and Z.”

And when we catch ourselves saying that word, ‘apart’, it’s usually a great opportunity to re-frame our outlook.

You see, the word ‘apart’ suggests that our struggles and frustrations are not part of our journey; that they exist outside our success and happiness.

Yet, when we look at reality—at what is—we realise that our struggles, frustrations and worries are all a part of our path.

It wouldn’t be the same path without them. We wouldn’t learn what we need to learn. Our victories (for want of a better word) would be empty without the obstacles we’ve overcome to gain them.

And so let’s not look at life as apart from us; let’s look at everything out there as a part of us.
